Porirua fire under control

Fire crews have successfully controlled a fire which engulfed a building on a residential street in Whitby, Porirua.

Firefighters used breathing apparatus to get inside the Bosun Terrace property and everyone inside has been accounted for.

The fire was under control by 8.20pm and there was no threat to any other properties on the street.

However, the building has been badly damaged and an investigation into the cause is underway.
